They went from Fort McMurray to Rankin Inlet. It took six and a half hours to cover 790 miles. The ceiling was low, but the country is flat and the visibility was OK.
Re-fuelling was chilly. The highest temperature recorded in Rankin Inlet in November is 1.5 decrees C. The wind chill can easily take the temperature down to -40 degrees C.. This is the town that once had the longest recorded blizzard in Canada, lasting over 7 days.
Bill says the hotel in Rankin is expensive but nice. There are two restaurants in town but nothing at the hotel, so, to avoid going out in the cold, the guests buy pre-cooked frozen meals at the desk and cook them in the microwave in the room.
The current plan is to leave for Iqaluit tomorrow.
